Writerly Thoughts

Some recent writerly success has motivated me to start looking at my poetry chapbook manuscript again. (If you'd like to see some of the places my work has been featured, please check out the "publications" tab )

It's such slow work, I gotta say. I'm not one of those "force yourself to write" kinds of people. I just can't put out when inspiration isn't there. So, my manuscript sits in a dusty word doc, and I find myself submitting the same poems over and over. It's definitely time for some new material, but once again...waiting for the block to crumble away.

I've been re-thinking the print-on-demand thing again. The self-published book thing. I don't know. On one hand, I think it's a good idea. I'm not a MFA student. I like to write poetry, but I'm probably not going to go back to school for it. I have a child (soon to be children! Eep!) and I operate an [admittedly] slow online business. I submit sporadically at best. Not that putting in the time, effort, money, and creativity to format the thing, work with the software, and get it out there isn't hard work by itself, but plodding through all the bureaucracy and formalities and contractual stuff to look for an agent and a publisher, being as un-known as I am, seems more daunting.

On the other hand...what if I could? Do all the latter stuff I just said? It would definitely be better for me as a writer. More people would read my stuff at least.

There's also the possibility that I'm completely de-ranged and should really write a MILLION more things and submit for A LONG TIME before I think such pretentious thoughts about publishing my stuff. I don't know.

Anyway, I guess this post is just a meandering dialogue with myself about writing and you all just got to be along for the crazy. If you're still here, yay! Thanks for caring!

If you're a writer and have ever thought of getting your stuff out there or have had some success doing so, I'd love to hear from you! Talk to me about your experiences!
