Checking In

Hey peeps,

So it's been almost a month. Crazzzyy. I'm wrapping up my last term as an undergraduate, and it feels strange. It will be soo sad, I think, not gearing up for school again next fall. I guess I'll have grad school to look forward to in another year, though, (I hope) so I s'pose I can carry on without the Academy until then.

A wee update on the literary aspects of my life: I sent off poems to seven different journals back in February. All of them have sent me letter like this one:

All of the except one, that is. I still haven't heard back from that one. Aww, well Que sera sera. When School gets out in a couple weeks, I'll have more time to write. And I'll just keep sending off more shit.

Oh. But there was this...

A week ago, I found out that I was selected to recieve Southern Oregon University's Herman Schmelling Award for Expository Writing for the 2010-11 schoolyear. Maybe the Universe is trying to tell me I should be writing literary criticism and leave the actually literature to somebody else? But it was nice. A much-needed morale booster. We all need those from time to time.

  1. Good to hear from you Laura!

I too am spending my summer sending off shit and entering contests. Just keep at it. It really is nice to have the time off to sit down and get some writing done. Congrats on the award. :)

  2. Congrats on the award! :) You're an excellent writer, hun. ~ Alena

  3. I am happy to see you have returned to the blogging world! That is great news about the award and I hope you have some really FUN summer time plans:-)

  4. I have sent off two short stories this summer myself and with any luck, I may just forget about the response timeline and move on! Welcome Back!

  5. Congratulations on the award! And don't let a few rejections keep you from writing and sending out more poems.
    Warmest wishes,
    ~ Debra
