I'm a big fan of prompts. Especially in those dry seasons every writer experiences from time to time. Prompts are like a shot of whiskey on a freezing winter day. They sort of jolt your senses a little bit--the good ones, anyway--and sometimes that little jolt of the unexpected is all we need to get some ink on paper.
If you enjoy being prompted, there's a great blogger you should check out. Michel Stong has a little gig going on called "Tell Me a Story," over at her blog Girl From North Country. The idea is simple--just write a short based on the photograph she's got posted, there, and send it in to her.
